"And oh my goodness, when you swung that hammer -- you hit it so hard, I thought you were going to break it!" Giggles bubble up from Pearl's throat like a fountain, and she nearly stumbles in her next step, overcome by laughter. She leans closer into Garnet's side for support, one arm looped through hers already, and recomposes herself with a deep inhale of evening air.
"Actually, maybe you did, and that's why it gave out so many tickets," she suggests once calmer, eyebrows tweezing together in thought. Even with her giggling quelled, though, Pearl's smile stretches bright from ear to ear, and her freckled cheeks remain flushed with excitement. She swings up her other arm, wrapped around the prize purchased with said tickets -- a ridiculously oversized plushie of what appears to be a cross between a hippopotamus and a dog, and despite this manages to be adorable. "I thought it was never going to end!"

But the hyper-attentive focus on her own lips makes it easy to pick up Pearl’s hesitation, and her heart sinks. Is that a frown? Was this too much too soon? Did she accidentally pressure her into something she wasn’t ready for?
Just when she feels like Pearl must be about to pull away, that she certainly crossed a line and ruined everything by initiating such very intimate contact, she’s hit with a new sensation altogether. Even just the hesitant touch of tongue to her lip is enough to set her whole body on fire. She hadn’t imagined Pearl would take such initiative here, and is so caught by surprise that she loses what little cool she’d still be hanging onto. The noise that escapes her throat is embarrassing, but she can stop it no less than she can stop her own tongue from immediately rushing to meet Pearl’s, her body rising encouragingly.

"Mmn--!"
Okay. That's her tongue. A shiver shoots down Pearl's spine at the initial contact, before she settles into it with a shaky sigh. Not a laughing noise, then.
Her lips instinctively part further to allow Garnet's tongue into her mouth, until a second later it hits her that Garnet's tongue is in her mouth. Immediately she slaps her hands against Garnet's shoulders, signaling for her to stop -- it takes her another good moment to pull her mouth away, gasping out a raspy string of "wait-wait-wait-wait".

“I’m so sorry,” she gasps, eyes wide with horror. “I thought-- I didn’t realize--”

And now Pearl's going to look like an absolute idiot explaining herself. "It occurred to me that my mouth might, erm, taste unpleasant. It's been two hours since my last breath mint." Reaching into the back pocket of her jeans, she holds up the half-empty box with a lopsided smile.
Small and feeble, she offers: "Sorry."

“It’s okay,” she says, collecting herself and offering a genuine, relieved smile. “I just… don’t want to make you uncomfortable or anything.” She pauses for a beat, and then adds, “Your mouth tastes just fine, by the way, if you maybe want to… try that again.” She tries to play it cool, but she’s certain she hasn’t been able to keep her eagerness from her face.

"I do," she assures her, voice soft. Then she hesitates, biting her lower lip again. "... But you don't mind if I take one first, do you?"

"You cleaned up your room for me, didn't you?"

"Why, Garnet," she sing-songs, shifting to lie onto her side so that she's on the other girl's eye level-- "if I didn't know any better, I'd think you liked me."

The mint isn't all gone yet, but she swallows it down -- kissing Garnet seems like a matter of much greater urgency, now.
So she leans in and does so.

Now that she's aware she's not acting out of bounds she moves to deepen the kiss, running her tongue along Pearl's bottom lip.
Never again is she going to associate the taste of mints with anything but Pearl's mouth, that's for certain.

Pearl doesn't know how she expected this to feel, but she's certain it was nothing like this.
"... It's a little bit strange, isn't it?" she asks once they've paused for breath, with a brief, thin giggle.
no subject
“But it’s a good strange, right?”

With a tilt of the head, she brushes her lips to Garnet's cheek. "But I think I'd like to get used to it with you."
no subject
She shifts a little closer, too, pressing their foreheads together and closing her eyes. "Even just this is... it's really nice."

A soft sigh of contentment thrums through Pearl's throat, and though her eyelids droop, she doesn't let her eyes close yet. She wants to watch Garnet's face for a little longer -- how pretty and dark her eyelashes are without her sunglasses to obscure them, how full and soft her lips are, how lovely she looks when she's completely at peace. Completely at peace with her.
And all Pearl can think about is how lucky she is to have her, so gentle and understanding and patient. No, better -- Garnet isn't just willing to wait for her, she wants to. And she thinks it will never fail to amaze her, that there's someone in this world who could possibly care for her this much. Who returns her feelings in full.
"I'm really glad I fell for you," she blurts without thinking, only for her eyes double in size the next second as her own words register.
"That--" Pearl sputters, face feeling for all intents and purposes like it's been set on fire, "that seemed like a better thing to say before I said it."

Her expression softens considerably, however, as she registers the horror on Pearl’s face. “Hey,” she says quietly, holding eye contact steadily, “I’m really glad too. It’s… It’s a very nice thing to hear.”

"So... I didn't make a complete embarrassment of myself just now?"
no subject

If she didn't have good reason to be embarrassed before, well, that takes care of that.

She knows she's only making matters worse, but she she can't help herself: she leans forward and presses a kiss over Pearl's hands, too. If she can't kiss her face, she'll settle for the next best thing.
